OVERHEAR/OVERHERE IonSound Project and Ifyoureallyloveme join forces to present OverHear/OverHere, a project for shirt and assembly line workers. Musicians pop up and position themselves near enough to be overheard, but not to disrupt, work. Shift labor involves long periods of standing, short breaks, repetitive motion, and other stresses. Medical studies show that overheard music may lower blood pressure and ease anxiety and physical pain in the workplace. OverHear/OverHere creates brief periods where such change in the body may be possible. Musicians popped up at construction sites, post offices, restaurant kitchens, loading docks, schools, and the back aisles of big box stores. Groups of listeners ranged from one or two people to small crowds. The project culminated in a free public concert in April 2018. |
